Ghosts invade suburbia in this 1982 horror film from director Tobe Hooper (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) and producer Steven Spielberg. Life in the Freeling family's tract home is comfortably bland, but frisky poltergeists soon put a little excitement into their daily routine--moving furniture and communicating with their youngest daughter, Carol Anne, through the television set. Unfortunately, harmless pranks quickly turn nasty and the previously friendly ghosts kidnap Carol Anne, trapping her in the spirit world. To win the child back, the family calls in a team of parapsychologists and a psychic who conducts an elaborate exorcism. The apocalyptic finale is deliciously macabre, and pushed the limits of the PG rating. A number of sequels followed, and speculation still remains on whether Spielberg--who wrote the story and storyboarded the action--essentially ghost directed the film.

This is a great movie with wonderful special effects for its time. A classic in horror films. The acting and script was perfect. Still to this day gives me chills when I see a static tv screen! There are scary parts but no blood/gore kinda things. The parents do smoke pot in one part which I was a little surprised to see. I would recommend this movie to anyone :).

Come into the light!! (and read this) by:

one of the more creepy horror movies out there, this takes the said possibility of a poltergeist ( A haunting in a specfic area ) and ravishes this familys house, as the movie progresses the hauntings get even worse and when the family discovers a rather scary amount of information on the land their house is built on, all hell breaks loose! (litteraly) if you like horror movies, and moreso ones that almost seem possible, i highly reccomend picking this up. at minimum a rental. one of my favorite flicks in the horror genre!

Story: A family's ordinary tract home suddenly becomes a gateway for enraged ghosts who kidnap their little girl and take her to their twilight world. Hiring paranormal experts, the family attempts to discover why she was taken and how to get her back. Great performances by all in this deluxe ghost story. Comments: Who doesn't know the MOST famous horror-theatre line '' They're Here!... '' ??? This Movie ROCKS!!! little girl trapped inside a TV/Dimension, ghosts haunting a house and it's occupants, TERRIFIC special-effects that even today it is HARD to be matched! directed by Steven Spielberg, one of THE greatest directors of all times, good for any age UNDER parental supervision ofcourse! I remember when i first saw it when i was a kid, many decades ago and i had nightmares about it for months! Movie is set in the late 1970's, and you can clearly see that in the way they interact with there neighbours, sunday afternoon football, and secretely smoking so there children won't see it. ( Flower Power Parents ). The setting & all that can be matched in those times with everyday American, can easily be identified with. Ofcourse the ghost thing is a bit extravagant, but in beginning when they hire professional investigators to find there kid then you can see that Steven Spielberg did his homework good and all. Very catching movie, a classic for all times, one of the first & best horror-movies ever created, prior to Hellraiser. This one you just HAVE TO HAVE in your collection. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I love this movie, always have. I bought it because my husband, who is 31, had NEVER seen it! The special effects are definitely dated, but the movie is still awesome!
